JOHN COULTHARD
joined BI in 1954 as a Cadet on "Chindwara", finishing his
apprenticeship on "Dunera" when she was a Troop Ship. He served with
BI on a variety of cargo, passenger, cruise and tanker vessels both on Home
Line and Eastern Service. He left BI in 1972 at the amalgamation of
various companies under the P & O flag. At that time he was
Chief Officer of "Dwarka".
"DUNERA" IN EIDFJORD 1965
(TAKEN BY CHRIS HARE)
JILL MULLISS joined BI as Relief Assistant Purser on "Devonia" and "Dunera" in 1963, becoming a permanent employee in February 1964. She served mainly on "Dunera" but joined "Nevasa" in the River Fal when she was fitting out for use as a schoolship in 1965. Her last discharge book entry is dated 1st January 1966 at Genoa when she left in preparation for her marriage to John on 17th January that year. In those days there was no question of a wife continuing her career with BI. It was an "either/or" situation and John won. We did later go out on Eastern Service and lived in Singapore and Bombay. Jill was then able to sail with John for a time on the Japan-Gulf run.
